This page covers your EngineMon account: signing in, your profile and password, units and display, and the phone app's own settings. On the web everything is under Settings, in the tabs Profile, Security, Units, Display, Notifications and Billing. Click Save on a section to keep your changes.
Create an account
On the website, open Register. In the phone app, tap Register on the sign-in screen, then Create account. You need an email address, a username and a password of at least 8 characters.
You can also skip the password and use Google or Apple: pick one under Or continue with, then Choose a username and tap Create account. Other people see your username, never your email. If you tell Apple to hide your email, your account gets Apple's private relay address, which forwards to you. Sign in with Apple works on Android phones too.
Confirm your email
If we ask you to confirm your email, we send a link to it. The link expires after 24 hours. No email? Check your spam folder, then use Resend confirmation email (you can resend once a minute) or Use a different email if you mistyped it. Signing in before you've confirmed offers the same resend option.
Use your email or username with your password, or the Google or Apple button under Or continue with. The same account works on the website and in the phone app.
If you see "An account already uses this email", sign in with your password first, then add Google or Apple under Sign-in methods.
Forgot your password?
Click Forgot password? on the sign-in page, enter your email and click Send reset link. The link works for one hour. It only goes to an email address you've confirmed, so check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive. This also works if you signed up with Google or Apple and never had a password.
Setting a new password this way signs you out everywhere else.
Account menu
On the web, your username sits at the bottom of the sidebar (just its first letter when the sidebar is collapsed). Click it to see the email you're signed in with, switch between light and dark mode, or Log out. On a phone-sized screen, it's at the bottom of the menu.
Change your username, email or phone number
On the web these are on the Profile tab. In the phone app, go to Settings, tap your account at the top, and find them under Account details.
- Username: click Change username. It needs 3 to 20 characters, lowercase letters and numbers only. You get two changes in 30 days; once they're used up, the card tells you when the next one opens.
- Email: type the new address, enter your Current password and save. We send a link to the new address, and your old one stays in use until you open it. Until then the field shows Pending confirmation, with Resend link if you need it again. Signed up with Google or Apple? Set a password first, because changing your email needs one.
- Phone number: optional, US numbers only, and kept private.
The Profile card also shows your account ID and when the account was created.
Sign-in methods and password
On the web these live on the Security tab under Sign-in methods. In the phone app they're in Settings > Account. Linking and unlinking need an internet connection.
Add or remove Google and Apple
To add one on the web, click the Google or Apple button in its row and sign in with that account. In the phone app, tap Link. A linked row shows Linked as and the email it uses.
Unlink removes it after you confirm, and also ends EngineMon's access to that Google or Apple account. You can link it again later. You can't unlink your only way in: add a password or the other provider first.
If you see "This Google account is already linked to another EngineMon account" (or the Apple version), that Google or Apple account belongs to a different EngineMon account. Sign in to that account and unlink it there first.
Change or set your password
Change password asks for your current password, then the new one twice. Passwords need at least 8 characters. If you signed up with Google or Apple, you'll see Set password instead, which lets you also sign in with your email or username.
Saving a password signs you out on your other devices (in the phone app, you stay signed in on that phone). It also revokes any API keys you've made.
Units
Choose metric, imperial or a mix. On the web it's the Units tab, with Set all metric and Set all imperial buttons. In the phone app it's Settings > Account > Units, with Metric and Imperial presets. Your choice is saved to your account, so both apps use it.
| Setting | Choices |
|---|---|
| Temperature | °C or °F |
| Pressure | kPa, bar or psi |
| Distance and speed | km or mi (one choice covers both) |
| Volume and fuel flow | L or gal |
| Weight, torque and air flow | kg or lbs |
| Fuel economy | L/100km or mpg |
Log trimming (web only)
The Display tab sets how much of each drive log you see, across all logs:
- Trim to sensor data (the default): hides the device's own startup and shutdown data at each end.
- Trim to engine activity: hides everything before the engine starts and after it stops.
- Show all data: no trimming.
With trimming on, Buffer keeps up to 60 seconds before and after. The phone app always shows the full log. CSV download options live elsewhere: see CSV and display settings.
Dark mode
On the web: open the account menu and pick light or dark mode. The sun or moon button on the sign-in page does the same. The website starts dark, and your choice is saved in that browser only.
In the phone app: Settings > App > Theme, with Auto (follow the phone), Light or Dark.
Notifications
The Notifications tab (phone: Settings > Notifications) sets what reaches your phone and your email for each kind of alert, plus quiet hours and your timezone. Both apps share these settings. Choose what reaches your phone and email explains each one.
In the phone app
The phone's Settings screen has a few things the website doesn't.
App
- Background sync: Keep syncing when the app is in the background lets the phone collect drives over Bluetooth while you use other apps. It can use more battery, and on Android a notification shows while it runs. Keep syncing with the app closed has the details.
- Auto-open on engine start: opens live data when the car starts. Needs background sync.
- Open live data when streaming starts, and on Android Show live data on lock screen. See Phone settings for live data.
- Theme: see Dark mode.
Location logging
Off unless you turn it on. When it's on, your phone's GPS position is saved with your drives while the phone syncs with an EngineMon device you own. Choose Ask each drive or Every drive, and under Cars you can set a different choice for one car. The first time, the app explains what it collects and then asks for location permission. Every drive needs location access "all the time" (on Android, Allow location all the time opens the setting).
What happens to that location data:
- Only you can see it. People you share a car with and later owners of the car can't.
- It's never sent to EngineMon AI or to AI tools you connect, and it isn't included in log downloads or exports.
- We never sell it. We delete it 90 days after we receive it.
- Download my location data gives you a GPX file. Delete location data deletes it from EngineMon and from this phone, and can't be undone. Both need a connection.
Set it up on one phone and use another? The second phone shows Set up on this phone until you allow location there too. Details are in section 5 of our Privacy Policy.
Data & storage
Shows how much this phone has synced from your devices and sent on to EngineMon. See what your phone has synced explains the numbers.
Switch accounts or log out
Your other signed-in accounts are listed under your account at the top of Settings: tap one to switch. Add account signs in to another. Pushes still arrive for every account on the phone.
Log out is at the bottom of Settings > Account. It removes that account from this phone.
API keys
If it's enabled on your account, the Security tab on the web has API keys, which let AI agents like Claude Code or Cursor, or your own scripts, use your EngineMon data. A key acts as you, so keep it secret.
Create API key asks for a Name, the Access (Read-only, or Read & write to also change things like tags, alert rules and car settings) and when it Expires after (Never, 30, 90 or 365 days). The key is shown once, so copy it before you click Done. Connect a client shows the setup for Claude Code or a JSON config file.
Keys can't change your password, username or email, delete your account, make new keys or use EngineMon AI. The trash icon revokes a key right away. Changing or resetting your password, or asking to delete your account, revokes every key.
If you've ordered from us
Your orders are on the web under Settings > Billing, and in the phone app under Settings > Account > Order history. Open an order for its items, shipping address, totals and, once it ships, the tracking number. Your receipt went to your email.
To cancel, return or get a refund, open a support ticket with your order number (the 8 characters in the Order column on the web). EngineMon AI can open the ticket for you.
Delete your account
Delete account is at the bottom of the Profile tab on the web, and of Settings > Account in the phone app (it needs a connection there).
- You're signed out everywhere right away. The account is deleted 30 days later, and we email you when it is.
- Changed your mind? Sign in within those 30 days and the deletion is cancelled.
- Deleted: your profile, settings, sign-in methods, API keys, access to cars, dashboards and saved views, alert rules, location data, and the EngineMon AI chats and support tickets you started.
- Kept without your name: drive recordings and sensor data stay with the device and car, and your devices stay registered with no owner, so whoever registers one next owns it.
- Kept as they are: orders and payment records, as tax and financial rules require.
The full list is on Delete your account. Can't sign in? Email [email protected] from your account's address and we'll confirm with you before deleting anything.
