EngineMon AI

EngineMon AI is the assistant built into EngineMon. Ask it about your cars, drives, trouble codes or account and it looks up the answer in your own data and in these help articles. It can also make some changes for you, but only after you approve each one.

Open EngineMon AI

On the web: click the sparkles button in the top bar, next to the alerts bell (its tooltip says EngineMon AI). A panel opens on the right and stays open as you move between pages. You can also start a chat from the Support page with Chat with virtual agent.

In the phone app: tap the sparkles button at the top of the main screens, a car's screen or a device's screen. On a drive's analysis screen it's Ask EngineMon AI in the ⋯ menu. The chat opens over the screen you were on.

No sparkles button anywhere? EngineMon AI is turned off for your account.

What you can ask

Plain questions work best. For example:

  • "Why is my check engine light on?"
  • "What was the highest coolant temperature on Saturday's drive?"
  • "Compare oil temperature across my last five drives."
  • "Alert me when my coolant goes above 105 degrees."
  • "Share my 911 with jamie."

It knows which page you have open, so "what does this code mean?" on a car page works. If your question could mean more than one thing, it may ask you to pick from a few short options. It also links you to the right screen or help article when that's the better answer.

Tip: It reads your data and these articles, but it can still get something wrong. Check its answer before you act on anything that matters for your car.

What it can see

EngineMon AI can look up:

  • the cars you own or that are shared with you, their drives and sensor data, including comparisons across drives
  • trouble codes and their history, vehicle health and detected issues
  • live data your device is streaming right now
  • tags and comments, your alerts, alert rules and notification settings
  • saved dashboard views and labels
  • your devices and their status, and car access requests
  • your profile (email, phone, preferences), your orders and your support tickets

If tools are enabled on your account, it can also read a car's coding values and routines (see Tools), without changing them.

What it can change, with your OK

Before it changes anything, EngineMon AI shows what it wants to do and asks Approve this action? with Decline and Approve. When it has several changes, you get Approve 3 actions? (or however many), with Decline all, Approve all, or a choice on each followed by Confirm. Nothing changes until you approve, and only the person who asked can approve.

It acts as you, so it can't do anything your role on a car doesn't allow. For example, only a car's owners can share it.

  • Your account: phone number, units, phone app settings and notification settings.
  • Alerts: create, edit, pause, resume or delete alert rules, and mark alerts read. This is how you set up alert rules: see Alert rules.
  • Your cars and drives: car details (name, year, make, model, trim), tags and comments, false-positive reports on detected issues, saved views, labels, dismissing, restoring or ignoring a car's issues and codes, and reimporting or deleting a drive log.
  • Sharing and ownership: share a car, change someone's role or remove them, transfer a car, approve or deny access requests, and claim a car.
  • Devices: rename a device, transfer it, decline or cancel a transfer, and block a claim.
  • Support: open a ticket, reply to it, and close or reopen it.

What it can't do

  • Clear trouble codes, run routines, change coding, or send any command to your device. Do these yourself on the car's page: see Clear codes and Tools.
  • Change your email, username or password, delete your account, or create API keys. Those are in Account and settings.

Limits and messages

  • Question limit reached: a chat holds 20 questions. Start a New chat to keep going.
  • "You've asked too many questions for now": you can ask 30 questions an hour and 200 a day across all your chats. The message says how long to wait.
  • "You've reached your EngineMon AI usage limit for today": there's a separate daily usage cap. The message says when you can ask again.
  • "A response is already being generated": it answers one question at a time. Wait for it, or stop it with Stop response.

Your chats

Your chats are saved to your account, so the same list shows on the web and in the phone app.

On the web: click the chat's name at the top of the panel to switch chats or search them. The ⋮ menu has New chat, Edit chat name and Close.

In the phone app: the menu has New chat, Edit chat name and Delete chat. Deleting a chat is only possible in the phone app.

If you leave the chat on your phone before it finishes answering, you get a push when the reply is ready. You can turn that off with the EngineMon AI replies switch in notification settings. Questions asked on the web don't send pushes.

Privacy

EngineMon AI never sees the location data that Location logging saves. Your car's diagnostic data may be processed by the AI services we use, as described in our Privacy Policy. Deleting your account deletes the chats you started.

Reach a person

Ask EngineMon AI to open a support ticket, for example "I need to talk to someone about my order." It writes up the ticket, shows it to you to approve, and opens it. It can also add to a ticket you already have or close it.

On the web your tickets are on the Support page under View my tickets, where you can also open one yourself with New ticket. When support replies, you see it there and get an email. The phone app has no tickets screen, so on a phone, asking EngineMon AI is the way to reach us. More options are in Contacting support.
